Alice beta-read the first ten chapters of my story. She was recommended to me by Stefanie Green via a Facebook writer’s group. She identified grammatical and spelling issues as you’d expect. Where she really added value, however, were her comments regarding sentence structure and plot. She suggested alternative ways to phrase some of my sentences and her rationale for the change. She pointed out paragraphs that were mostly just lists of descriptions and explained why this might put off readers. She suggested several different places these descriptions could be moved to. She spotted a few of my Kiwi phrases that wouldn’t make sense to international readers. Lastly, she identified that while my later chapters were gripping, my first chapter wasn’t likely to compel a reader to continue with the book. Her advice – overhaul, or consider removing the chapter entirely – start the book from the second chapter!
Even though Alice only worked on the first ten chapters of my novel, her advice impacted the way I edited the entire work. Alice gave me an excellent understanding of my strengths and weaknesses as a writer. She got back to me within a week of receiving my draft document.
I couldn’t be more satisfied with Alice’s work on my novel. I recommend her to anyone wanting to improve the clarity and quality of their prose.

Alice is a dedicated, kind, and very thorough reader. She has been beta reading with me since I started writing and not only does she catch nearly every grammatical/spelling mistake and has valuable input on the content and flow of stories. She is very easy to speak to and to get to know, she works well within beta reading teams or one on one.
